The preppy cardigan
If you only buy one thing, do yourself a favour and make sure it’s a cardigan. Miu Miu’s strikes the perfect balance between demure and preppy.

The WASP suit
The 1980s called, they want their skirt suit back. Heritage checks, strong shoulders and a razor-sharp fit: Gucci’s iteration ticks all the right boxes, obviously.

The handkerchief hem
Nothing puts a (pre-) spring in your step like the swish of a handkerchief hem. But never mind wishy-washy florals or boho frills, look for styles that are graphic and, ideally, monochrome. See Balenciaga for further info.

The varsity jacket
This season, sportswear is less futuristic, a little more nostalgic. And what could possibly be more nostalgic than a varsity jacket like the one your crush wore back in high school?
Park the fanny pack, for now: next year’s best bags are swerving back towards ladylike. How to make that feel modern? Burberry’s chain-accented cross body, in a pleasingly prim shape and a silk scarf tie. Her maj would approve.
